BERNARDO SALCEDO (1939–2007)
Bernardo Salcedo was a pioneering Colombian conceptual artist whose work challenged conventional ideas of art through irony, language, and the transformation of everyday objects. His practice played a significant role in the development of conceptual art in Colombia and Latin America.
PRIMERA LECCIÓN (Desaparición del escudo) Presented by Bernardo Salcedo at the Second American Biennial of Graphic Arts, held at Museo La Tertulia in Cali, Colombia, in 1973.
Through language, irony, and the deconstruction of national symbols, Primera lección challenges conventional representations of identity, history, and power. More than fifty years after its creation, the work remains remarkably relevant, inviting reflection on how national identities are constructed, questioned, and redefined over time.
